INFORMATION ON LAND COURSES

TYPES OF COURSE

* Whether you are a complete beginner or a semi-pro, I will design a course that covers your requirements.

* The full 5 day courses will take you through the entire process of making a wildlife film. Each student will aim to complete a 2-3 minute video DVD, shot, edited and narrated by themselves.

(If you don't want to edit and just concentrate on camera work..no problem.)

Great footage can easily be ruined by bad editing. The 5 day course is a combination of knowing your camera, researching your subject, choosing a location, creating a story and taking good video while at the same time being aware of how everything will come together in the edit.

Custom made courses to fit personal needs for individuals or groups.

*There are 2 & 3 day special short courses where students can concentrate on any particular aspect of filmmaking. Camera work, editing, lighting, scripting..... you decide.

*Residential self catering accommodation for 2 people. Prices depend on time of year. Please contact me for details. jeff4goodman@gmail.com Local B&B can also be arranged.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Cameras: Students will need their own camera, although sharing with a friend is an option.

Tripod: Usually wildlife filming utilises the longer end of any zoon lens and so the need for a good steady tripod is highly recommended. Video tripods are different to still photographic tripods in that you need to be able to move the head smoothly for panning and tiltling motions. If you are in doubt, please contact me for advice. For the beginners course, a standard photgraphic tripod will suffice but will limit camera moves.

Editing: If you are considering the edit option as well, then there are many video editing software packages on the market. If you are new to this, I would highly reccomend looking at Adobe Premiere Elements. It is cheap, very versatile and easy to understand. You will need your own laptop although there is an editing PC here for loan if needed.

Lighting: Although we talk about artificial lighting it is not something that we cover in any great depth unless you specially request it. Generally our filming is done outdoors in natural daylight.
